I make mostly bespoke willow baskets but use many materials and methods in my weaving including willow bark, black ash and birch bark. I have recently opened my own gallery right here in Harbour Centre (Antigonish County). My mission is to share what I know and promote sustainable basketry. For the past 10 years I have taught in various venues in Cape Breton and Northern NS and sell through a few stores and farmer’s Markets. I have been basket weaving most of my adult life and now do it professionally. We will get a feel for using this amazing tree with hopes of doing beginner basketry in the future. For this class I will be bringing willow stock and will do a quick presentation on willow growing, harvesting and preparation. All of these projects can be made with wild harvested local materials. In this one day workshop we will make a Celtic Star (aka Scandinavian star), a 5 point star and if time allows a simple folded star. Tickets are $90 including taxes and service fees, available here.
